Simple Shoulder Stretching Exercises

The following exercises will be beneficial in relieving shoulder strain and help prevent injury, such as frozen shoulder. Also tension build up from sitting at a computer desk with bent shoulders for long hours will be eased.

These exercises can be incorporated into a warming up or cooling down session before and after any sporting activities.

Anterior Shoulder Stretch

  • Stand up straight with your shoulders relaxed.
  • Put one arm across your chest.
  • Hold the elbow with the opposite hand and pull the arm across your body until you feel a stretch in your shoulder.
  • Hold for at least a count of ten and repeat with other arm.

Posterior Shoulder Stretch

  • Stand straight with both feet firmly on the ground.
  • Use a twisted towel or rope and hold it  over your back with one hand.
  • With your other hand reach up behind your back and grab hold of the towel.
  • Pull the towel upwards as high as you can comfortably go.
  • Repeat with other arm.

    iam left hander,my right hand like(bieceps,triceps,shoulder)are weak.myleft hand is good,but my right hand is not good.so pls help me to improve my right hand.

    Hi Ameet

    Funny thing is that I am right handed but my left side is poor. I think it just goes to show that whichever side you work the most is the strongest. Therefore you must concentrate on your right hand side by lifting hand weights or squeezing a ball with your right hand.
